What We Offer

Island AVNS provides complete Potter fire alarm services — from system design and installation to annual inspection and ongoing support.

Addressable Fire Alarm Panels

Potter's PFC-6000 and PFC-4000 series addressable panels for commercial applications — from small retail to multi-story commercial buildings. Each device uniquely identified; supervisory and alarm zones individually programmed.

Conventional Fire Alarm Systems

For smaller applications where addressable architecture is not required — Potter conventional panels with smoke detectors, heat detectors, and pull stations.

System Design & Engineering

NFPA 72-compliant system design including device placement calculations, circuit protection, notification coverage, and AHJ submittal packages.

Permit & Inspection Coordination

We prepare permit applications, submit plans to the local Authority Having Jurisdiction, and coordinate the required inspections from start to certificate of occupancy.

Annual Inspection & Testing

NFPA 72 requires annual testing of all fire alarm system components. We test every detector, pull station, horn, strobe, and supervisory device and provide a written inspection report.

System Upgrades & Retrofits

Replace an aging or unsupported fire alarm system with a current Potter panel while reusing compatible field wiring where possible. We assess your existing system and provide upgrade options before recommending a full replacement.

How It Works

Island AVNS follows a proven four-step process to design, install, and commission your Potter fire alarm system.

1

Site Survey &
Code Review

We assess the building, review applicable fire codes, and determine system requirements — including device placement, notification coverage, and monitoring requirements.

2

System Design &
AHJ Submittal

We design the system, prepare submittal drawings, and obtain the required permits from your local Fire Marshal or Building Department.

3

Installation &
Programming

Potter control panel installed, all field devices wired and addressed, system programmed and fully tested per NFPA 72 requirements.

4

Inspection &
Certificate

We coordinate the AHJ inspection, address any field corrections, and obtain your certificate of completion or occupancy.

Potter Fire Alarm FAQs

Questions we hear regularly from Long Island homeowners and business owners.

What's the difference between an addressable and a conventional fire alarm system?

A conventional system divides the building into zones — when a detector activates, you know which zone but not which specific device. An addressable system assigns a unique address to every device — when a detector activates, the panel tells you exactly which device triggered. For commercial buildings and anywhere precise location identification matters, addressable systems are the standard.

Does Potter meet NFPA 72 requirements?

Yes. Potter fire alarm panels and devices are designed to meet NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code) and are UL Listed. Every Island AVNS installation is programmed and tested to NFPA 72 requirements, and we coordinate the required AHJ inspection.

How often does a fire alarm system need to be inspected?

NFPA 72 requires annual inspection and testing of all fire alarm system components. Some jurisdictions require semi-annual or quarterly testing for specific device types (e.g., sprinkler flow switches). Island AVNS provides annual inspection contracts and sends reminders when service is due.

Can you take over an existing Potter system for service?

Yes. If your building already has a Potter system that needs service, reprogramming, or annual inspection, we can take over that relationship. We assess the system, update our records, and continue service from there.

My older fire alarm system keeps false alarming. Can you fix it?

In many cases, yes. False alarms are usually caused by aging smoke detectors, contaminated detector chambers, or devices at end of life. We assess the system, identify the problem devices, and recommend a targeted repair before recommending a full system replacement.

How long does a commercial fire alarm installation take?

A small commercial installation (retail, office under 5,000 sq ft) typically takes 2–3 days. Larger buildings take longer depending on the number of floors, device count, and conduit requirements. We provide a project timeline as part of our proposal.
